Interviewed for Noctis Magazine
5 Minutes With First Date’s Austin Ventour
How did you get involved in First Dates?
I actually got scouted while I was working at The Breakfast Club in Spitalfields. They asked me if I would like to be on First Dates, but at the time, I'd just made it official with my girlfriend, so it was a no-go. Then they said, “Oh, it's not for a date, it’s to be a waiter on the show!” My mouth dropped! I had my interview, and the next thing I knew, I was on TV.
Would you say your life has changed since being on the show?
Yes, and definitely for the better - I even get recognised... occasionally. I love being in the spotlight, I just hope that I get even more opportunities in the future.
If you were at the table on First Dates, what would your number one chat-up line be?
A classic: are your legs tired? Because you've been running through my mind all day.

What are your top tips and the biggest no-goes for dating?
My top tip is to be yourself. I know it sounds cliché, but if you're not yourself, surely there's no point in being there? Don’t pretend to be someone you're not. My biggest frustration is rudeness. Just treat your date the way you want to be treated, and it'll work out.
How involved are you in fashion?
I feel like I have my own style, but I think I know loads about fashion until I meet people like you. I don't follow any certain trends; I just dress how I like.
What goals have you set yourself for the future?
I've always wanted to be an actor. However, falling into First Dates has given me a switch-up on my career goals. Although acting will always be number one, I can see myself following Scarlett Moffatt’s footsteps and becoming a presenter—I'm definitely confident enough!
